Ten years ago, the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals began its mission to transform New York City into a no-kill community, where no healthy or treatable cat or dog is killed at NYC shelters simply because they do not have a home. The Alliance, a 501(c)(3) charity, which receives no government funding and embodies the efforts of 150 participating rescue groups and shelters, has progressed steadily in its life-saving efforts over the past decade and, as a result, has reduced euthanasia at city shelters by 81 percent. That translates to more than a quarter-million dogs and cats saved.

Through its targeted programs, including the Wheels of Hope transport program and the New York City Feral Cat Initiative, among others, the Alliance continues to progress toward its goal of a no-kill NYC.
